BREAKING: Arrest Warrant Issued for Enrique Tarrio Over Refusal to Surrender Cellphone
Crime Vault Magazine Exclusive
Washington, D.C. – A D.C. court has issued an arrest warrant for former Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio after he refused to turn over his personal cellphone as ordered in a civil lawsuit.
The warrant stems from a long-running civil case brought by the African Methodist Episcopal Church (and related parties) against Tarrio and others, seeking millions in damages related to the vandalism and burning of a Black Lives Matter banner during a 2020 protest in Washington, D.C. The church, along with law firm Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison (which has also pursued high-profile cases tied to January 6 events), demanded access to Tarrio’s device for discovery purposes, including potential evidence of communications or involvement.
Tarrio, who was pardoned by President Trump in January 2025 for his federal seditious conspiracy conviction related to the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack, has publicly stated he would rather face jail time than comply. In statements circulated on social media and reported in court contexts, he described the demand as an attempt to entrap him or others, refusing to hand over the phone to avoid what he calls politically motivated overreach.
Court proceedings have required Tarrio to produce financial records and devices as part of the multimillion-dollar suit. He reportedly told the judge he would accept indefinite detention rather than surrender the device. As of late January 2026, the warrant remains active, though no immediate arrest has been reported in public sources.
This development adds to Tarrio’s post-pardon legal entanglements. In February 2025, shortly after his release, he was arrested by U.S. Capitol Police for simple assault after allegedly striking a protester’s arm and cellphone during a confrontation outside the Capitol following a press conference with other pardoned January 6 figures.
