COP GONE ROGUE: Former Gresham Officer Accused of Decades of Child Sex Crimes Cuts Off Ankle Monitor and Vanishes – Nationwide Warrant Issued
By Crime Vault Staff | April 10, 2026
In a stunning display of contempt for the justice system, a former Gresham police officer facing 56 felony sex-crime charges involving the repeated sexual abuse of an underage girl has cut off his court-ordered ankle monitor and disappeared into the wind.
Hector Carranza, 37, who joined the Gresham Police Department in 2014, was indicted in July 2025 on a horrifying list of charges that include:
- 4 counts of third-degree rape
- 12 counts of third-degree sodomy
- 24 counts of second-degree sexual abuse
- 5 counts of using a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct
- 5 counts of encouraging child sexual abuse in the second degree
- 5 counts of luring a minor
- 1 count of attempting to use a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct
The alleged crimes reportedly spanned multiple years between 2014 and 2017, when Carranza was already wearing the badge.
Carranza pleaded not guilty following his indictment. Despite the severity of the accusations, he was released from jail on August 12, 2025, and placed on electronic home monitoring with an ankle bracelet.
That fragile arrangement ended abruptly in the early morning hours of Saturday, March 21, 2026. Court records and the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office confirm that Carranza sliced off his ankle monitor shortly after midnight, powered down his phone, and vanished without a trace.
Two days later, on March 23, a judge issued a formal arrest warrant — complete with a nationwide extradition order — meaning authorities across the country are now authorized to bring him back to Oregon if captured.
Multnomah County officials have publicly released Carranza’s photo and described him as 6 feet tall and approximately 220 pounds. While they stated he is not currently believed to be an immediate danger to the broader community, the brazen act of tampering with court-ordered monitoring has alarmed many who see it as a dangerous sign of disregard for both the victim and the legal process.
The case has already drawn intense scrutiny because it involves a man who was once sworn to protect the public — now accused of preying on a child while in uniform.
As of April 10, 2026, Carranza remains at large. Law enforcement agencies are actively searching for him and asking the public for any tips that could lead to his location.
This latest development adds a fresh layer of outrage to an already disturbing case of alleged betrayal by someone entrusted with a gun, a badge, and the community’s safety. For the victim — who endured years of alleged abuse — and for survivors of institutional failures in law enforcement, Carranza’s flight from justice only deepens the wound.
Crime Vault will continue to follow this manhunt. If you have information on Hector Carranza’s whereabouts, contact your local law enforcement or the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office immediately.
